Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to website owners. We use cookies in accordance with GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC).
We ask for your consent before placing any non-essential cookies. You can manage your preferences at any time via the Cookie Preferences control.
2. Cookies We Use
SOSCO uses two categories of cookies:
| Category | Required? | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Always active | Authentication, session management, security |
| Analytics | Consent required | Product usage analytics via PostHog (EU-hosted) |
3. Essential Cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary to operate the SOSCO platform. They cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality such as signing in, maintaining your session, and staying secure.
| Cookie or storage key | Provider | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| better-auth.session_token | SOSCO | Maintains your authenticated session | 24 hours |
| better-auth.session_data | SOSCO | Short-lived session cache used to reduce database lookups | 5 minutes |
| NEXT_LOCALE | SOSCO | Remembers your language preference | Session or browser-managed |
| cookie_consent | SOSCO | Local storage key that remembers your cookie preference | 6 months |
In production, authentication cookies may use the __Secure- prefix depending on browser and deployment security settings.
4. Analytics Cookies
We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog is hosted on EU infrastructure (eu.posthog.com) and all data is processed within the European Union. Analytics cookies are only set after you have given explicit consent via our cookie banner.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| ph_* | PostHog (EU) | Anonymous product usage tracking | Up to 1 year, or earlier if consent is withdrawn or expires |
PostHog does not sell your data to third parties. You can opt out at any time by clicking Cookie Preferences and selecting "Essential Only". When you withdraw analytics consent, SOSCO stops analytics capture and clears PostHog browser persistence where technically possible.
5. How to Control Cookies
You have several options to control cookies:
- Cookie Preferences (recommended): Click the "Cookie Preferences" control to open the consent banner and change your preferences at any time.
- Browser settings: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies in their settings. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent SOSCO from working correctly.
- PostHog opt-out: Visit PostHog's Privacy page for additional opt-out options.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification or email.
7. Contact Us
For questions about this Cookie Policy or our use of cookies, contact us at legal@sosco.io or write to us at: Rua de Duarte Barbosa 434, Porto 4150-282, Portugal.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the CNPD (Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados), Portugal's supervisory authority, or any EU data protection authority.
